News: Woman who struck 5 people with car in Richmond sentenced

RICHMOND, VA – A woman who struck a group of people with her car outside a nightclub in Richmond last year has been sentenced, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

A Richmond Circuit Court judge sentenced Shiauna M. Harris to 25 years in prison for the June 26, 2019 crash at Image Restaurant and Lounge, located at 1713 E. Main St. in the city’s Shockoe Bottom neighborhood.

Prosecutors said the incident stemmed from a fight that began inside the club and spilled into the street.

Harris drove her car into a crowd outside the lounge, killing 22-year-old Shanice Woodberry.  Woodberry did not know Harris and was not involved in the fight, authorities said.

Four other people were also hit by the vehicle. Harris pleaded guilty earlier this year to several charges, including second-degree murder and felony hit-and-run.

At her sentencing Monday, Harris said she left the scene of the crash without knowing whether she had hit anyone, a claim disputed by prosecutors.
