News: Richmond police search for suspects in James River stolen vehicle crash

RICHMOND, VA – Search crews from several police departments are looking for a pair of juvenile suspects following a stolen vehicle crash near the James River early Tuesday morning.

According to WWBT, the accident occurred at about 1:30 a.m. along the Bells Road Ramp from I-95. Investigators say five juveniles fled the scene of the crash on foot. Three of them were found and arrested while two others are still on the run.

Police believe one suspect jumped into the river and disappeared underwater. He has not been seen since the incident. Police have deployed a number of search crews and helicopters to scene the area for the missing suspect.

UPDATE: Search teams have discovered the body of the male suspect who dove into the river, in the 4300 block of Deepwater Terminal Road. He has been identified as 18-year-old Richmond resident Mario Christian-Day.

The final missing suspect was found in nearby woods. The 16-year-old boy was returned to his legal guardians.
