News: Pedestrian in Virginia Beach struck by alleged drunk driver

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – Police say a man was driving drunk when he struck a pedestrian in Virginia Beach over the weekend.

According to 13 News Now, the accident occurred in the area of 25th Street and Atlantic Avenue at the Oceanfront on Saturday afternoon.  Investigators said 52-year-old Roy Escobar crashed his vehicle into a hotel sign on the side of Atlantic Avenue and then struck a man, seriously injuring him.

The injured pedestrian is expected to recover.

Escobar remained at the scene of the accident. He is charged with maiming as a result of driving under the influence and was taken to the Virginia Beach City Jail.
