1 Person Dead & 2 Injured in Norfolk Crash

The police in Norfolk were called to the scene of a multi-car accident this week. The crash happened on the Eastbound lanes of Interstate-64 not far from Tidewater Drive. It occurred at about 2:30 in the afternoon on Wednesday, July 29, 2020.

When the police arrived, they found three cars had been involved in the accident. The driver of one vehicle was George Schaab. He was driving a 2006 Chevy Corvette in the Eastbound lanes. Witnesses said that he was speeding at the time of the accident.

While Schaab was traveling in the Eastbound lanes, a man driving a 2016 Dodge Journey tried to change lanes. The driver is Khiry Ives. When he moved out of his lane, he hit Schaab. Both drivers lost control of their vehicle and spun back traffic. Schaab hit a wall in the process.

After bouncing off the wall, Schaab smashed into someone driving a 2017 Nissan Altima. The driver of the Altima was taken to the local hospital and was treated for what were described as non-life-threatening injuries.

Schaab himself was taken to Depaul Medical Center where he later died from his injuries. The driver of the Dodge Journey was charged with unsafe lane changes.

The family of Schaab has not made a statement as of yet. However, given the fact that Ives was charged with a traffic infraction, the victim’s family will likely have a legal claim against the other driver. The same can be said for the driver of the Nissan Altima. The third driver’s name has not been released. Thankfully, there did not appear to be any other passengers injured in the crash.
