Woman Killed in Deadly 5-Car Accident at Monitor-Merrimac Bridge Tunnel

Whenever an accident involves multiple vehicles, there are bound to be some serious injuries. Some accidents set off a chain reaction, causing the cars to crash into each other. Some of the cars involved are usually the ones trying to avoid the crash. However, in a deadly 5-car accident earlier this week, all of the collisions were rear-end accidents.

Tyler Beam was driving a 2017 Isuzu box truck near the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge tunnel on Interstate-664. It was about 5:30 pm when Beam crashed into the back of a 2019 Chevy Trax. After hitting the Chevy, the box truck went on to smash into the back of a 2005 GMC 1500 pickup truck.

The pickup truck was forced off the road after the collision and smashed into a wall. It then flipped over and landed on top of a 2002 Ford Explorer. This caused the Ford Explorer to hit the back of a 2020 Kia Sportage.

As you can imagine, there were multiple people injured in this crash. Sadly, the driver of the GMC, Karen Grieser, was killed. Grieser was 57-years old and lived in Hampton, Virginia. There has been no comment from her family as of yet.

The police said that most of the people involved had to be treated for injuries. The names of the people driving the Kia Sportage and the Fort Explorer have not been released. Nor has there been an update on their condition.

The police are still investigating the crash and haven’t really identified a cause. However, they have charged the driver of the box truck – Tyler Beam – with reckless driving. Further charges could be pending, depending on the results of the police investigation.
