News: Driver in custody after fatal moped accident in Chesapeake

CHESAPEAKE, VA – A driver was taken into custody following a deadly moped accident in Chesapeake, according to WAVY.

Police said a person riding a moped was struck by a Ford Taurus in the area of Hoover Avenue and Buckland Street shortly before 3:40 p.m. Saturday.

The driver of the car was making a left onto Buckland Street when the accident occurred. The moped operator was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, the Taurus’s driver fled the scene and was followed by witnesses who saw the person go to the rear of a residence on Martin Avenue. Police took the individual into custody, and charges are now pending.
