News: 11 vehicles crash inside Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel

SUFFOLK, VA – Two separate crashes involving a total of 11 cars shut down traffic inside the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel Tuesday, 13 News Now reported.

State police said that they initially believed they were responding to one massive pileup, but found two separate incidents upon arrival, one involving five vehicles and the other involving six. Both pileups happened in the northbound lanes of the MMMBT at about 3:30 p.m.

One person sustained a minor injury.  The northbound lanes of the tunnel were closed for about an hour while the scene was being cleared.

Nine summonses were issued to drivers for following too closely.
