DUI Crash in Suffolk Leaves 1 Dead and 1 in Critical Condition

Some of the most dangerous car accidents are those that involve drinking and driving. When someone is drunk, they make bad decision. These bad decisions end up causing innocent people to get hurt or even killed. Sadly, this was the case for two people in Suffolk, Virginia this past weekend.

On Saturday, February 29 at about 1:40 pm, 54-year old Rodney Edwards was traveling through Suffolk, Virginia. For some reason, he crashed into a vehicle being driven by 60-year old Walter Sculthorpe of North Chesterfield, Virginia. No details about the crash have been revealed.

The authorities did confirm that Sculthorpe was pronounced dead at the scene. Another woman who was in the car with Sculthorpe was seriously injured in the crash. She was transported to the local hospital with what were described as life-threatening injuries. As of today, she is still listed as in critical condition.

The police arrested Rodney Edwards and charged him with driving under the influence. Of course, until he has his day in court, these are only allegations. However, depending on what happens, the family of Sculthorpe, and the female victim, will have potential legal claims against him.

For now, the investigation is still ongoing. We expect more details to be released as they the crash is unraveled. The accident happened in the 400 block of Godwin Road in Suffolk. All we know for sure is that two cars were involved. The police did not indicate if the man charged with DUI was injured in the accident or not. Thankfully, no other vehicles were involved and no other innocent people were injured.
