Car Crash In Smyth Injures 5 People

At approximately 3:15 PM, an accident occurred at Tattle Branch Road and Cherokee Lane, SWVA Today reports. Car crash in Smyth left five people injured including an adult female with life-threatening injuries. The Virginia State Trooper Pickel is leading the initial investigation to determine what occurred and what may have caused the accident. This collision involved a Chevy box truck and a Toyota Camry near the intersection’s stop sign.

Based on initial reports, the car cash in Smyth included two adult women and two adult men. The female passenger was noted as having life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to the nearest hospital while the others also suffered serious injuries. This included the Toyota Camry’s driver.

While the driver of the Chevy box truck was left with serious injuries, the passenger was reported to have minor injuries and has been released from the hospital after receiving appropriate medical treatment.

According to State Trooper Pickel, the remaining victims were also sent to the nearest hospital for additional treatment. The initial treatment was provided by Wings Air Rescue and the local ambulance services in Chilhowie.

The Smyth County Sheriff’s office has been in contact with the involved parties and continues to investigate the collision.

Specialists are expected to begin working with a qualified accident reconstruction team to help pinpoint what went on and who was at fault. The initial reports are suggesting the Chevy box truck managed to come into the middle of the intersection before getting struck by the Toyota Camry. Due to the impact, both vehicles ended up in a nearby ditch. Based on the investigative work done by the authorities, the victims in both vehicles were not wearing their seat belts.

As investigations continuing in the coming days, the local authorities will determine whether or not charges are to be laid.
